5 Tips for Taking Your Kia Sorento on a Road Trip

The Kia Sorento is a five- or seven-passenger crossover SUV that is larger than the typical mid-size SUV, but it doesn't have the bulk of some of the big family vehicles. It comes well-equipped with standard technology even in the base trim, and there are three different engines available. The Kia Sorento is a great choice for a road trip, whether it is the whole family or just you and a friend. Here are some tips for taking the Sorento out on the road for an extended trip. Use the Technology The Sorento comes standard with a lot of tech features to make your ride go by fast. Even the base has Bluetooth so you can connect your phone and play the music from your playlist, or you can use the satellite radio to listen to your favorite tunes. It also has a USB port for easy connecting on the go. Add the Convenience package to the LS or choose one of the higher trims where it comes standard and you'll get a 7-inch touchscreen and the UVO infotainment system. more Hands-Free Liftgate Loading and unloading your gear is easy with the hands-free liftgate that comes in the EX and above. Kia's version is even better than most other manufacturers since there is nothing to swipe or push. The Smart Liftgate system automatically opens when you stand close to it with the key fob. This means you can have your hands completely full, and even keep both feet on the ground while you open the gate. No searching for the sensor or swiping with your foot to get it open. The Safety Features You can feel confident that you'll stay safe on the road in the Sorento with the standard and optional safety equipment. All models come with a rearview camera, and additional active safety systems are available on the higher trims. You can get a forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control is also available, along with automatic windshield wipers. Use the Storage Space There is plenty of storage space and cargo space in the Sorento, including many cubbies throughout the cabin for small item storage. In the back, you'll find plenty of storage behind the third row, and the seat backs easily fold down to create even more cargo space if you need it. Don't Sweat Spills Spills are inevitable on a road trip. If you want to keep moving, your passengers will need to eat and drink, and if you have kids in the car, snacks can keep them occupied. Thankfully, the cloth seats in the Sorento feature materials from YES Essentials. This fabric is soft, will resist stains, and dries quickly when it gets wet. Let your passengers have their snacks and drink their juice or coffee without worrying about spills and the cleanup. Follow these tips when you take your Sorento out on a road trip, and you can all enjoy the ride no matter where you go.

Exterior Look The updated 2018 model has a more mature look with sleeker lines. The front features the signature Kia tiger-nose grill, but it is wider on the Ceed than other models. The air intake is also lower, and the front end now comes with the LED daytime running lights that Kia previously used only on the GT models. In the back, the Ceed has new oval-shaped taillights that look similar to the ones on the Stinger, and you can choose between 15-inch, 16-inch or 17-inch wheels depending on the trim. The 2018 will come in eight different trim levels, and there are four different gas engines and two diesel engines. more The Interior Inside, the Ceed looks like a Kia with a dash divided into two distinct sections. The top features a free-standing touch-screen display for the infotainment system which is available with either a 5-inch, 7-inch, or 8-inch screen. Choose a higher-end trim with the 8-inch touch screen and the system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and all the models come with Bluetooth and smartphone integration. The bottom half of the dash has the traditional style controls for both climate control and the stereo. The front seat passengers get plenty of headroom due to the lower driving position, and there is also more room in the back seat. The driver gets a new steering wheel and an updated gear lever which is also available in a leather-wrapped version. The Engines and Power There are several engine options available for the Ceed. The first is a 1.0-liter T-GDi, along with a 1.4-liter T-GDi, and a Kappa 1.4-liter T-GDi. The diesel option is a 1.6-liter CRDi. All engines come standard with a six-speed manual transmission with the option for a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic in the 1.4-liter gas engine and the diesel. Drivers can choose either Normal or Sport mode, with the Normal mode available to maximize fuel economy and the Sport mode offering a sharper throttle and weighted steering. Safety The 2018 Ceed comes with some new safety technology. This includes a lane following assist system which will find gaps in traffic to help you move in heavy congestion, and it will follow the lane markings on the highway to keep you in your lane. This system will also apply the brakes in traffic when needed and take control of the steering. The Ceed also offers the option for adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert and pedestrian detection. 5 Tips for Test Driving Your Next Kia

Buying a new car is an exciting venture, but it can also feel a bit overwhelming. If you've never shopped at a dealership or taken cars for test drives before, you may not know what to expect or how to get started. Follow these tips to test drive your next Kia like a pro and find the perfect model for your lifestyle. Start With Research The first thing to do before you step foot in a car is doing some research and deciding exactly what you're looking for in your next vehicle purchase. If you have a big family, you might want to consider minivans and three-row SUVs. On the other hand, commuting tends to be easier in a car that gets great gas mileage and has the latest tech features to keep you connected. Kia has a wide selection of options across most of the main vehicle segments, making it easier to choose the car that will suit your needs. more Schedule an Appointment Showing up at the dealership without an appointment can slow down the process significantly. If the other sales team members are already busy with customers who scheduled appointments, you may end up having to wait until someone is available to help you. When you have a specific Kia model in mind, the one you want could be out on another test drive, but scheduling an appointment will ensure that the car you want to drive is ready when you arrive. Walk Around the Exterior Once you have the car you want in mind, take a walk around the outside to see how everything looks from different angles. Make sure you like how the color appears in the daylight as well as at night. You should also look at features that will impact the overall look and feel of the exterior, such as the headlights, front grille, spoiler, and curves. Test the Inside When you're test driving a car, you're not just testing the way it drives. For many drivers, the interior comfort and space are more important than anything found beneath the hood. If you have young kids, bring their car seats to make sure they fit comfortably in the rear and are easy to install. The trunk or cargo area should be big enough to fit all your gear, while the seats should feel supportive and comfortable for both short and long trips. Try out the different tech features as well, including the infotainment interface and audio system. These will impact how much you enjoy the ride, so they're important to consider as well. Getting In and Out As you make your final decision, try climbing in and out of the car several times. You shouldn't have to stoop too low or bump your head just to get into your new car. If it's hard to get in from the start, you'll probably end up with a lot of bumps and bruises when you're trying to get in quickly. At Gunther Kia, we make it easy to test drive your dream car. Schedule an appointment and meet with one of our friendly, helpful sales team members to get the process started.

3 Things You Never Want to Hear While Driving and How to Avoid the Situation

Ask anyone who has been driving for a few years and he or she could tell you plenty of stories of road trips gone wrong. Whether it's a big vacation or a simple run to the grocery store, being stuck in a car sometimes brings out the worst in us. Whether you're the driver or the passenger, here are three things you never want to hear when you're in the car. We're About to Run Out of Gas You've lost track of the miles. When you look down at the gas gauge, you suddenly realize it's below empty, and you're about to run out of gas. The first thing you need to do is not panic. If the low fuel light just came on, you still have a few miles before you'll completely run out of gas. Next, you need to take stock of your situation. If you remember passing a gas station a few miles ago, you're better off turning around and heading back instead of pushing forward. You also want to slow down. Driving over 50 mph rapidly decreases your fuel economy so move over to the right lane and only use the gas pedal to maintain a steady speed. If your car does run out of gas before you make it to a gas station, immediately coast over to the shoulder, put on your hazards lights, and call for help. more My Stomach Doesn't Feel Good If it's an adult saying this, he can probably gauge whether or not you need to pull over to the side of the road. However, if it's your kid saying this, you might only have a few seconds to react before there's a disaster zone in the backseat. Motion sickness occurs when the inner ear senses motion, but the eyes and joints don't. If your child is prone to motion sickness, try to get her to look at things outside of the car instead of books or games inside the car. Also, small, bland snacks right before the trip and proper air ventilation can help prevent motion sickness. Oops, I Spilled Something You're cruising down the road listening to your favorite song, and suddenly you hear your child gasp in the backseat. With hesitation, you hear “Do you have a napkin?” This all too familiar story has happened to all of us. Will you ever be able to save your interior? Luckily, you don't have to start shopping for a new car right that second. If you have paper towels in the car, use them to immediately wipe up any liquid messes. Next, turn to your trusty baby wipes to finish cleaning the mess. Since baby wipes are gentle enough for human skin, they're also fine on leather and fabric. Once you get home, make sure to go over the spots with a cleaner to remove any lingering odors or stains. When you're driving, you never want to hear these three things. However, if you do, at least you now know how to handle them.

The lane departure warning system is able to detect the lane you're driving in and alert you if you start to drift from that lane. If there is a collision, Kia vehicles include a full set of air bags, including a driver knee air bag, driver and passenger seat air bags, front and rear side air bags, and curtain air bags. These air bags work together to protect you and your passengers no matter how you're impacted. Additionally, every Kia vehicle comes with seat belt pretensioners, which hold you firmly to your seat just before and at the beginning of a collision before allowing you to come in contact with an inflated air bag in a controlled way. Advanced Technology Along with some of the latest safety features, Kia drivers also love the advanced technology they can get in their vehicle. The available UVO infotainment system offers plenty of convenient features. For example, with Parking Minder, if you forget where you park your car, UVO can send you its location directly to your smartphone. If you want to keep your Kia running smoothly for miles to come, UVO can schedule recurring diagnostic checks to help you monitor all of your systems. From good looks on the outside to top features on the inside, if you're interested in discovering why Kia keeps topping the J.D.
